20 GOTO 10.

Congrats to Fústar for this wonderful nostalgic piece of geekery:

After pausing for a moment or two to decide how to proceed, my father (I think it was he) suggested I “ask it a question”. This, I cheerfully admit, didn’t strike me as too absurd an idea. It was the mid 80s (in Ireland) remember – a time when home computers carried potent whiffs of the techno-exotic and the quasi-magical. In other words, we genuinely thought they knew stuff.

“What is the capital of Ethiopia?”, typed I.

“Syntax Error”, replied Arnold.

Hmmm.

Several hundred syntax errors later and a disillusioned pall began to fall over the family.

Irish Blog Awards 2009 – February 21st in Cork

July 31st, 2008

The 2009 Blog Awards are taking place in Cork in the Cork Airport International Hotel.

The venue has been booked for February 21st 2009. There’s a special room rate of €100 per room or €55 per person sharing if you mention the Blog Awards. Places are apparently going quickly. Here’s one pic of the hotel as you see it from Arrivals at the Airport.

Here’s David Maybury inside the hotel. Yup, that’s a real car. Inside the hotel.

Irish Web Awards 2008 – Initial Category list

July 20th, 2008

The first thing to note when it comes to deciding categories and judging criteria for an Awards show is that there will never be a full consensus on them, even if you had eternal life. So we’ll try and get as close to “almost happy” as possible.

The Web Awards are designed to be as fair as possible and to allow the 15 year old website builder to be able to compete as well as the design agency. It’s her talent we want to reward, not her ability to pay to enter and attend. The Web Awards are also designed to highlight online areas that other awards shows have not catered for.

With these things in mind, here is draft version 0.4 of the Irish Web Awards categories. Feedback appreciated but they become the “official” ones very soon. [for sponsorship information, email contact (at) awards.ie ]

June 2008 Blog Post of the Month – Bock Loves Lenny – Sponsored by O2

July 2nd, 2008

Monthly Blog Awards sponsored by O2

So we’ve had the emotional, the instructional and now we have the jealousy inducing blog post describing a moment and event that many are now regretting they couldn’t be at. Bock has written a highly detailed post covering a moment of time and has done so with such a passion that you really feel like you were there. You also want to take Leonard Cohen and cuddle him after reading it. The blog post engages the readers, shows off in-depth knowledge of the artist and makes you want to be able to review gigs like that.

Lenny loves Bock too!

Congrats Bock.
