20 GOTO 10.

Congrats to Fústar for this wonderful nostalgic piece of geekery:

After pausing for a moment or two to decide how to proceed, my father (I think it was he) suggested I “ask it a question”. This, I cheerfully admit, didn’t strike me as too absurd an idea. It was the mid 80s (in Ireland) remember – a time when home computers carried potent whiffs of the techno-exotic and the quasi-magical. In other words, we genuinely thought they knew stuff.

“What is the capital of Ethiopia?”, typed I.

“Syntax Error”, replied Arnold.

Hmmm.

Several hundred syntax errors later and a disillusioned pall began to fall over the family.

I think the form to nominate should be easier to find. I think I had to plow through the archives of this blog to find it..maybe give it a link in the right hand column?

Well, well, I’m in an internet cafe in rainy Clifden reading this joyous news, Many thanks for the nod. Climbed a lofty peak yesterday so this has added a warm glow to my aching limbs. Cheers all.

    Great post! Congratulations!

I remember in 1983 a whole herd of schoolfriends around someone’s Dad’s new computer, ‘helping’ him play Zork. All these years later, I still have trouble making the dang things do what I want.

    Never did win Zork, either.
