Blog Post of the Month for May 2008 – Sponsored by O2

Monthly Blog Awards sponsored by O2

The April winner of Blog Post of the Month was an emotionally heavy but uplifting post about death and loss and what remains, this month’s winner is on a different part of the blogging spectrum.

The May Blog post of the Month is very educational for new and existing bloggers. Darragh Doyle blogged how to leave and encourage comments on blogs and the reaction alone from people (see all the comments) and the number of people who nominated it for Post of the Month prove that a post on the most basic part of blogging was sorely needed. Congratulations Darragh. A trophy is on the way and 02 and Nokia will be sending on an N95 to you.

Hi Darragh. . Greetings from Sydney, Australia.

I’ve just read a mention of my friend Olive Riley in your interesting blog.

Olive Riley, aged 108, lives in a nursing home at Woy Woy, 50 miles north of Sydney, and is probably the oldest of the world’s 112.8 million bloggers and its oldest YouTuber.

She celebrated her 108th birthday on October 20, 2007. She was born in Broken Hill in 1899, when Sydney was the capital of the British colony of New South Wales, ruled from London by Queen Victoria.

Physically frail but mentally alert, Olive raised her three children on her own, survived two world wars , the Great Depression of the 1930s, and worked as a barmaid, an egg sorter, and a station (ranch) cook.

Olive’s blog, The Life of Riley, http://www.allaboutolive.com.au has a huge Internet following. Prepared by her helper, international film maker Mike Rubbo, and based on his interviews with Olive, it attracts hundreds of enthusiastic comments from many countries, and from bloggers of all ages.

The London Sun recently published a story about Olive: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/woman/real_life/article548314.ece

I’ve set up a temperory blog for Olive while Mike is overseas. It’s posted at http://worldsoldestblogger.blogspot.com/

    Best wishes, Eric.
