Irish Blog Awards

EDIT: For those that are not reading this post and are nominating people in the comments,I shall repeat and put it all in bold text – If you wish to nominate yourself or someone else then you can email irishawards (at) gmail.com with a link to the blog and/or the post you want to nominate and for which category.

Categories:

  • Best Blogger
  • Best Blog Post
  • Most Humorous Post
  • Best Photo Blog
  • Best Fictional Piece in a Blog
  • Best Arts and Culture Blog
  • Best Political Blog
  • Best Group Blog
  • Best Comment/Commenter
  • Best Personal Blog
  • Best Use of the Irish Language in a Blog
  • Best Contribution to the Irish Bloggersphere (Tech wise)

If you wish to nominate yourself or someone else then you can email irishawards (at) gmail.com with a link to the blog and/or the post you want to nominate and for which category. No, there’s no automated process to do this yet. I’ve asked before and tumbleweed flew past. I need someone to write a few forms for me, which will automate the process. Anyone want to do so?

How this will work is the nomination process will be open for a few weeks. Anyone can nominate anyone, including themselves. We will sift through all the nominations and create a short-list for each category based on number of nominations as well as quality. We will ask people then to vote on their favourites from the short-list and then based on the number of votes and other factors, again such as quality of the blog/posts, the judges will pick a winner.

Here too are some of the things I want to do for the awards:

If someone wants to create a little button with a “Blog Awards Nominee” and some HTML code linking to this site, then work away but it is not mandatory to link back to here.

I would like to create an e-book of all the short-listed posst and host it on the server here. Maybe encourage everyone to host it too. This e-book would in a way be a testimony to non-bloggers. “This is what we do and look at how well we do it”.

No event decided yet. No prizes. No final date. While we don’t necessarily need them, I do want to go drinking with you all and celebrate! I’m around Dublin this weekend so I shall scout a few locations.

  1. Where’s the “Adventure/Resuce/Outdoors/Gear” or “Niche Topic” category?!! How will I ever win now 🙁

  2. Silly question: what makes a Blog Irish? In my own case, I’m Scottish, resident in Dublin, my webserver is in Kentucky, and I rarely (if ever) blog about Ireland. Oh well… 8)

I am going to make a complete show of myself and nominate a blog which I assist in putting together . I do not expect to get anywhere but , then again , ‘our type’ never did have much faith in the voting procedure !

  13. Paul Browne says:

I was going to suggest a ‘best newcomer’ category for 2005, but there again 95% of blogs would be in that category …

  14. Sinéad says:

Hmmm. Why does Mark McCullagh’s name link to the blog he’s expounding so heartily?

  21. Roseanne says:

Ainmním An tImeall http://imeall.blogspot.com arís – ag déanamh an-jab gan bheith ró-pushy faoin nGaeilge. An-nadúrtha go deo faoi agus réimse leathan ábhar á phlé aige ar a phodchraoladh.

I nominate An tImeall http://imeall.blogspot.com again – doing great work without being too pushy about the Irish. Very natural altogether about it and covering a really broad range of subjects on his podcast.
    RS

Hi – I nominate http://www.fustar.org in the Best Arts and Culture Blog.

  23. Gary says:

    imeall.blogspot.com

  24. Soundtracks says:

My blog is a bit of a holding ground for all sorts of reviews and anecedotes that end up making their way elsewhere so I’ve no idea where it would fit in an awards like this.

  25. Arlene says:

I want to nominate Twenty Major, http://twentymajor.blogspot.com/ for best blog.

  26. Debbie H says:

Can I vote for http://fdelondras.blogspot.com/ as Best Blogger. And http://www.fustar.org/ as Best Arts and Culture Blog. Thanks.

  27. michael says:

I agree with Colm who wrote on January 5. He’s a bit long-winded but his point that there is no realistic way of determing best blog is right on. That said, I nominate Monasette, North Atlantic Skyline. You’ve got way too many categories but he would fit in Best Blogger; Best Arts and Culture; Best Commenter; and Best Personal. If you haven’t seen him, take a look! One particular entry might not blow you away, but for sustained quality and interest….he’s amazing! [I say “he” but that “-ette” says I might be wrong. I don’t know: can’t tell.]

  28. satchmo says:

    Isn’t it spelled blogosphere?

  29. Paul Foley says:

To encourage youngsters etc. there should be some sort of education or students category?

  30. SlapHead says:

I have to agree, by any standard this is exceptional stuff.

  31. Joe Bloggs says:

This one is a contender in the personal category and has been running for over 2 years!

  32. Neasa says:

http://imeall.blogspot.com/ an Blag Gaeilge is fearr cinnte. Níl mórán blagadóirí in aon teanga a chuireann podchraoladh le chéile chomh rialta agus dheanan eiseann. Fairplay dhuit Conn.

  33. Gerald says:

A very refreshing, corrosive and humoristic blog!

  34. John says:

I nominate Howl At The Moon for best blog.

  35. Parnell says:

Lets push the boat out for this one. I nominate El Blogador and United Irelander for Best Blog
