  1. “Please do not abuse the system”. Awww, take all the fun out of life. I thought as an Irish person I had a constitutional right to stuff ballots on any web votes. I’m off to blog about “A nation once again” being the greatest song ever.

    Hi

I can’t see when public voting is closed, have you a date in mind or has it been announced yet somewhere else?

  3. Damien says:

Voting ends Friday the 17th Feb at 23.59

  4. Declan Cashin says:

Like Robert, I hadn’t the foggiest that I was in a longlist. Chuffed to even get into that so thanks mysterious masked stranger! Good luck to everyone.

My competitors will apparently stoop to low levels – I wish to put it on record that there is NO TRUTH in the nasty rumour that , should we win , I will be personally visiting all those who voted for me .
Likewise , there is NO TRUTH in the rumour that my….’friends’ …. will be personally visiting all those who DID NOT vote for us …..

    Why the very idea ….
    😉

We tried voting individually from our work computer all seperate votes with individual valid email addresses and after one vote the system tells us sorry your vote has already been given. Same happened to a friend who tried to vote after his girlfriend did but they were only allowed one.

The script must have a bit of vote spam prevention built in that wont allow two concurrent votes from the same ip? I’m sure Damien will be able to fill you in on that one though. Maybe it’ll time out after a while and the missus can put in her vote then?

Also, unlike Sharon, I wish to point out that if I win, I will personally visit everyone who voted for me and thank them… I’m just that nice!

  8. Frank says:

    Seán,

If you or any of your colleagues were going to vote for me please implore them to go to an internet café, log on from home or a friend’s computer, or something. I’m really desperate, man!

  9. Damien says:

    Seán.
It is not IP based but computer and browser. It uses cookies to see who voted from a computer and will block multiple users. This prevents people making up email addresses names and constantly voting from their pc. It’s a bit kludgy but it works and unfortunately some people are already trying to vote multiple times. The script then also monitors IP addresses and highlights this when I view the results so right now I’m watching votes from one computer and I think 18 from one IP is slightly suspicious especially when they vote the same way.

If you are having issues, just have your colleagues email irishawards [at] gmail DOT com with their votes. NOTE: this is not open to everyone as I don’t want even more spam where people just forward an email their friend asked them to send out.

  10. Gerry says:

18 is not dodgy from one IP. We NAT here and I promised blow jobs in the office to anyone who voted for me. Wait, damn, its up to 18, Jason voted twice the git….

    Hey all,

I know I’m a little late for this but how do you get your blog nominated for this? Even if I can’t at this late stage, come and have a look … it might entertain, frighten or bore you or even make you sick.

    Kev

Does anybody know any other guestbooks relating to this?
