Contribution to the Irish Bloggersphere – Explanation of the category

There are now 21 categories for the blog awards and most of them need no explanation. I think though I better explain what the Contribution to the Irish Bloggersphere is all about. From discussions last year it was suggested and accepted that there should be an award to recognise those people who brought us to where we are right now. There wouldn’t be a blog awards and there wouldn’t be as much of a community if it wasn’t for these people.

The people that were there from the start, the evangelists of blogging, the ones who forced companies and people to listen and convinced them to try this new medium out, the ones who started mailing lists and organised early meetups. Then there’s also the innovators and the ones repurposing blogs for campaigns and so forth. They are the ones like Roger Galligan who last year won for his work with IrishBlogs.ie. IrishBlogs.ie in my view started the “tipping point” for blogs and allowed so many of us to find each other.

Unlike the 20 other categories, I will moderate entries for this. There will still be a long list but if you do not fit the criteria above, which in fairness is still loose, then you will be culled from the list. Your blog or your favourite blog can avail of 20 other categories to be nominated in. This award is not about blogs and their content but about the people who made Irish blogging what it is or who are currently making it better.
